Chicago rapper Lil Durk will remain behind bars after a federal judge denied his bond request this week, citing violations of jail communication rules. Durk, born Durk Derrick Banks, is facing serious charges related to a 2022 murder-for-hire plot targeting fellow rapper Quando Rondo. During a hearing on May 8, U.S. Magistrate Judge Patricia Donahue highlighted reports that Durk used other inmates’ phone accounts to make unauthorized calls, demonstrating “a disrespect for the rules” . Despite his legal team’s proposal of a multi-million dollar bond package with strict monitoring, the court remained unconvinced of his compliance if released . In a slight legal victory, the judge ruled that Durk’s song lyrics cannot be used as evidence in the trial, a point of contention for his defense . The trial is scheduled to begin on October 14, 2025, with Durk maintaining his not guilty plea.
