Drake Drops Legal Action Against UMG and Spotify
After a very public fallout, Drake has withdrawn his legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify.
Although the star accused the two entertainment giants of plotting and scheming to make Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” a big hit, Drake filed court documents this week informing the court that all three parties “met and conferred” on January 14, 2025 regarding this filing.
Spotify expressed “no objection to the withdrawal and discontinuance,” even though it previously filed an opposition to Drake’s initial petition. UMG never submitted a legal response and “reserved its position,” which means the company reserves the right to take action, assert a claim or make arguments at a later stage in the legal process.
Drake’s legal action was withdrawn “without costs to any party,” however no reason is cited for the rapper’s decision.
Kendrick Lamar has yet to publicly comment on the feud between Drake and their mutual label. However, Drake’s second petition filed against UMG and iHeartMedia in Texas, which was filed under similar allegations, remains active.
