The Grammys Will Still Happen on Feb. 2 Despite LA Fires
The show must go on, according to The Recording Academy, who announced this week that The Grammy Awards will continue as scheduled on February 2 in Los Angeles.
Despite the LA wildfires that have been raging for more than a week, The Recording Academy’s CEO, Harvey Mason Jr., confirmed the news in a letter to members.
“In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th GRAMMY Awards telecast on CBS on February 2nd will proceed as planned. This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours,” said Mason in the letter.
The Recording Academy and MusicCares launched the Los Angeles Fire relief Effort last week with an initial $1 million donation to support music creatives and professionals affected by the fires. According to the letter, it has already distributed more than $2 million in emergency aid.
The Grammy Awards show will take place at the Crypto.com Arena and will broadcast live on CBS from 8pm to 11:30pm ET. It will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
