Denzel Washington Receives Presidential Medal Of Freedom
Denzel Washington is in a class of his own when it comes to acting, and he was recently recognized as one of the recipients for the Presidential Medal of Freedom. President Joe Biden awarded the actor and 18 other individuals with the highest U.S. civilian honor at the White House during the first weekend of 2025.
Hillary Clinton, Anna Wintour, Magic Johnson, Bill Nye and Michael J. Fox also received medals.
“For the final time as president I have the honor bestowing the Medal of Freedom, our nation’s highest civilian honor, on a group of extraordinary, truly extraordinary people, who gave their sacred effort, their sacred effort, to shape the culture and the cause of America,” said President Biden at the award ceremony. “Let me just say to each of you, thank you, thank you, thank you for all you’ve done to help this country.”
The Presidential Medal of Freedom was established by John F. Kennedy in 1963 and recognizes those who have made significant contributions to national security, world peace, culture, education or other fields that benefit society. Recipients include a diverse group of trailblazers, from civil rights leaders and scientists to artists, educators and public servants. Awarded annually, the medal serves as a symbol for the nation’s gratitude for extraordinary achievements that positively impact the lives of Americans and people around the globe.
