Judge Dismisses Several Lawsuit Allegations Against Lizzo
Lizzo won big in court earlier in this week when a judge dismissed several allegations in connection to a lawsuit filed last year by a former wardrobe stylist.
In September 2023, Asha Daniels, who worked with Lizzo from 2019 to 2023, sued Lizzo, accusing her and her team of harassment and mistreatment. She claimed that she was subjected to discrimination, a hostile work environment and emotional distress. The stylist further accused Lizzo’s management of bullying, intimidation and retaliatory actions after she raised concerns about her treatment.
Daniels’ lawsuit came just months after Lizzo was hit with a separate lawsuit filed by three of her former dancers, who made similar accusations of sexual harassment, discrimination and a toxic work environment.
At the time of the lawsuits, Lizzo’s representatives denied the allegations, stating they were “completely false and without merit,” and a judge recently dismissed several of these claims made in Daniels lawsuit on technicalities.
According to the judge, since Lizzo’s tour took place in Europe, U.S. labor laws do not apply to the case. Additionally, the judge noted that Daniels claims were filed under Title 7, and since she accused Lizzo and her tour manager of discrimination, specific individuals can not be held liable under that specific title.
A source reportedly close to Lizzo says the star plans on fighting every allegation until each one is dismissed.
