October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Domestic abuse is an issue that does not discriminate. It affects all people regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status including children, our friends, and even our pets. That includes behaviors that physically harm, intimidate, manipulate, or control a partner or otherwise force them to behave in ways they donāt want to. This can happen through physical violence, threats, emotional abuse, or financial control.
As advocates. when we understand what relationship abuse looks like and means, we can then take steps to get help for ourselves as well as better support others who are experiencing abuse.
The programs listed below offer services including a 24-hour hotline, access to shelter, counseling, and advocacy. Your talks with them are confidential, and you can remain anonymous when calling any hotline.
